Mercy Hassan, from Yewa community in Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State has sent her three kids to tertiary institutions and gained more respect in her family.
Oxfam has been implementing the PROACT project in Mubi, Adamawa State with support from European Union in Nigeria.
“Before Oxfam’s intervention, my husband used to see me as a liability in the family. My husband never used to respect me and even my kids. Poverty is not good.
Today, my husband now respects me more and involves me in decision making in the family. With the support of Oxfam’s Village Savings and Loans Scheme, I have built five rooms and a shop.
I am also building two houses for my other two children. I want to thank Oxfam for being able to help me through the project to pay school fees for my three kids in college of education and polytechnic”.
With funding support from the European Union, Oxfam is working to improve the food security, nutrition and resilience of vulnerable people in Kebbi and Adamawa States by enhancing the capacity of local governments, building the capacity of farmers to play policy influencing roles; working with the private sector; increasing food reserves through supporting farmers’ access to agriculture inputs and technologies; and enhancing the purchasing power of vulnerable populations through integrating cash transfers into agricultural production support.
PROACT project is implemented in Kebbi state LGAs: Birnin Kebbi, Jega and Danko/Wasagu, Adamawa state LGAs: Song, Mubi South, Fufore and Guyuk.
