Farmer-led Agricultural Innovation for Resilience
Since 2007, Oxfam has been working on improving rice production techniques in Vietnam. This support is now part of the “Farmer-Led Agricultural Innovation for Resilience” (FLAIR) project, which has been implemented in the six northern provinces since 2011. The goal of the project is to empower small-scale farming men and women to innovate and adapt their agricultural practices, so that they are better able to address the challenges they face and improve their food security and livelihoods.
Gender Transformative and Responsible Agribusiness Investments in South East Asia
Oxfam contributes to the development of a responsible and sustainable shrimp value chain in Vietnam. These efforts are part of the “Gender Transformative and Responsible Agribusiness Investments in South East Asia” (GRAISEA) regional programme, which is focused on improving livelihoods for small-scale producers across Southeast Asia through responsible value chains and private sector investments that take both women and men’s concerns and needs into account.
Mekong Inclusion
The Mekong Inclusion Project is promoting the participation of local communities and civil society in water resource governance and decision-making in the Mekong region, thereby helping these groups to better sustain their livelihoods. This regional initiative is based on the premise that including the men and women, civil society organisations and national river networks most affected by decisions on water resources in governance processes will make public policy and decision-making more effective.
Up-scaling of Pro-poor Rattan and Bamboo Value Chain Development
Oxfam seeks to increase the income of ethnic minorities and poor women working in the bamboo and rattan value chains. Our overall goal is to reduce poverty, increase livelihood diversification, and enhance the resilience of ethnic minorities and poor women by ensuring they benefit from their work in the rattan and bamboo value chains.
Development of Pro-poor Pork Value Chain
Oxfam is complementing government policies to make sure that an upgraded pork value chain can also provide better livelihood opportunities for small-scale farmers, women in particular, and contribute to reducing poverty in poor households. Oxfam participates as a member of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s advisory panel, providing input and support to maximize the positive social impacts of upgrading the value chain and avoiding negative impacts on small-scale farmers.
Sustainable and Equitable Shrimp Production and Value Chain Development
Oxfam’s efforts to ensure sustainable and responsible shrimp production and value chain development in Vietnam involve small-scale shrimp producers and processors in the Mekong Delta, the main shrimp production area. We support adoption of global standards and norms on sustainable shrimp production by Vietnamese shrimp producers, and help Vietnamese shrimp producers and processors conform to best management practices.
Unilever Study
Oxfam has a long history of engagement with Unilever at the global level. Building on this experience, during 2011 Oxfam undertook a study of labour standards in Unilever’s operations and supply chain, with Unilever’s active cooperation. Vietnam was selected as the country case study, and an initial Oxfam report was published in 2013.
Promoting Sustainable Wild Capture Fishery
To develop and promote corporate social responsibility practices within wild capture fishery supply chains, Oxfam is carrying out a one-year pilot project. The aim is to ensure that CSR practices are integrated into wild capture fishery supply chains by a number of important stakeholders, including fishing vessel owners, traders, processing plants, fish feed producers and retailers.
