Having spent over 14 years working in the field of finance with international organizations, Sotheary has a deep understanding of budget management. She works closely with Oxfam's partners in the area of finance, produces financial reports and gives recommendations to partners for better performance. She recently began working as a senior finance officer at Oxfam and works closely with over 30 partners in various projects.
An Essential Contribution
Sotheary helps with assessments and provides suggestions to the finance manager in evaluating and preparing project budgets, supporting the audit process and writing reports to donors. In addition to her role in finance, she assists in providing funds to partners, evaluating their project implementation once every three or six months and providing recommendations to partners for better performance. "Although my job isn't directly humanitarian, I am proud to contribute to Oxfam's programs and projects so that they can be done more effectively. I contribute by working on budget transparency, attracting more donors and helping project officers to understand finance policy for better practice," says Sotheary.
Proud and Committed
"I love working in Oxfam because what it is doing fits in with my vision. I want to see women enjoy better opportunities and to promote humanitarian work," explains Sotheary. She is happy to learn a lot more things relevant to her field with Oxfam, working well with its partners and her colleagues and coaching partners to enhance their work, which she considers as her achievement and a source of satisfaction.
Oxfam is a humanitarian organization working hard to address the main social issues facing the Cambodian people. It's also a place to learn new things, get out of my comfort zone and find self-fulfilment.
